YKVN Receives 2013 Asian-Mena Counsel Deal of the Year Award for Our Role in Vietcombank Strategic Sale
Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City / Singapore (April 10, 2013) – The strategic sale of a 15% stake in the Joint Stock Commercial Bank of Foreign Trade of Vietnam (also known as “Vietcombank”) to Mizuho Corporate Bank, Ltd. was recognized as one of thirty two Asian Counsel’s “Deals of the Year” for 2012.
Asia-Mena Counsel selected the Vietcombank deal as the only deal from Vietnam, believing that the deal more than satisfied the criteria of innovation, complexity, size, and uniqueness. Asia-Mena Counsel is a leading publication for corporate counsel in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. Asia-Mena Counsel had previously recognized deals in which YKVN was on the legal advisory team as one of its Deals of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
The Vietcombank deal is probably the most complex M&A deal involving a significant State asset since the Government of Vietnam started its equitization program in 2006 due to its size and importance, the regulated nature of the banking sector, the status of Vietcombank as a publicly traded and listed company and the tough market conditions. It is also the biggest M&A deal in 2011 and 2012 in Vietnam.
Working on the YKVN’s team advising Vietcombank were partners Truong Nhat Quang and Duong Thu Ha and a team of associates based in Hanoi.
