YKVN Named “National Law Firm of the Year” for Vietnam in 2011
Hanoi / Ho Chi Minh City / Singapore (April 14, 2011) - Vietnamese law firm YKVN today announced that it has been named as Vietnam’s National Law Firm of the Year for 2011 by International Finance Law Review (IFLR). It is the fifth time, and third year in succession, that YKVN has been awarded this distinction. The IFLR Asia Awards are generally recognised as the most prestigious market awards for law firms in the region. YKVN was also nominated by IFLR for Asian Restructuring “Deal of the Year”, in recognition of the firm’s leading role in the acquisition of a controlling interest in Nui Phao Mining Joint Venture Company Ltd. by Masan Group. The transaction was a landmark in Vietnam because it was one of the first corporate restructurings in the country and was a complex test in analysing Vietnamese law on debt acquisition and restructuring, issuance of securities and options, and corporate reorganisation. The Nui Phao tungsten mining project, one of the largest tungsten deposits in the world, is the biggest mining project in Vietnam and also been a very contentious issue among the Vietnamese natural resource and infrastructure community. The project’s standing as a valued national treasure, coupled with the scale and complexity of the transaction, necessitated that YKVN work in close contact with government regulators and officials throughout the closing process. “We are very gratified to have been shortlisted by IFLR alongside deals such as the Japanese Airlines corporate reorganisation”, said Truong Nhat Quang, YKVN Managing Partner. “This transaction was a great test of our firm’s capabilities and I am very proud that YKVN is again gaining recognition on a regional stage for the quality of our work”. Finally, YKVN was named “Employer of Choice” 2010 by Asian Legal Business (ALB), a leading journal covering legal transactions in Asia. This is the third consecutive year YKVN has received this distinction.
