YKVN advised Vietnam Airlines in the US Eximbank-guaranteed financing of its purchase of 4 Boeing 777-200 aircraft. This is the first US Eximbank guaranteed-financing in Vietnam and was named one of the "Best Deals of 2003" by Global Trade Review. YKVN also advised Vietnam Airlines in the ECGD-COFACE-HERMES-guaranteed financing of its purchase of 3 Airbus A321 aircraft. This is the first combined European ECA guaranteed-financing in Vietnam which received the "Asset & Corporate Finance Deal of the Year" award from Asian Legal Business. In recognition of YKVNís expertise in this area, Vietnam Airlines has again chosen YKVN to advise them in the recent ECA backed financing of 10 Airbus A321.
YKVN lawyers advised International Lease Finance Corporation on the leasing of a Boeing 767 to Vietnam Airlines. We recently advised Aercap on the leasing of 2 Boeing 737-400 to Pacific Airlines, a Vietnamese joint stock airliner. We are also advising Babcock & Brown Aircraft Management LLC on the leasing of a Boeing 737-400 to Pacific Airlines.
We recently advised Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin) on a US$ 600 million loan facility arranged by Credit Suisse. This is the biggest loan facility arranged by a foreign bank for a Vietnamese borrower. We recently advised Vinashin in connection with the issuance by AIG of progress payment refund guarantees for the construction of five 53 million deadweight tonne ships to UK buyers. This is the first guarantee transaction in which Vinashin successfully secured guarantees issued by a foreign institution for its obligations under shipbuilding contracts. We also acted for Vinashin in connection with the issuance by HSBC of progress payment guarantees for the construction of four 4.6 million deadweight tonne ships. We are also advising Vinashin on a US$ 250 million loan facility arranged by Deustche Bank.
We advised Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam as lead arranger and agent on the issuance of refund guarantees for advanced payments in connection with the construction of five 50,000 DWT ships to be built by Vinashin. This is the first significant co-guarantee facility of Vietnamese banks. We are also advising a syndicate of international banks led by Credit Suisse on a very significant loan facility for Vinalines Group.
